Our one-on-one peer support programming connects queer and gender diverse folx 16+ to a certified queer and/or gender diverse peer support worker. Peer support programming offers trauma-informed, strengths-based support by aiding in the development of wellness tools, assisting with accessing gender affirming services and resources, and providing a space to ask questions on variety of queer and gender related topics.
What is Peer Support?
Peer support occurs when people provide knowledge, experience, emotional, social or practical help to others who have a similar lived experience.. It commonly refers to an initiative consisting of trained supporters, and can take on a number of forms such as mentoring, reflective listening, and resource navigation.
What to expect?
One-on-one peer support sessions are 1 hour long and guided by the individual seeking support. You can decide how best to use your with the peer support worker by identifying your goals during the consultation appointment.
In addition to virtual sessions individuals will receive a co-developed tool kit that is personalized to their specific care needs.
We discuss and share resources on:
General information related to wellness as a queer and/or gender diverse person.
Strategies to address challenges related to your gender identity and/or sexual orientation.
Community resources and engagement opportunities.
Understanding queerness, gender identity and expression.
Tools for improving communication regarding your gender identity and/or queerness.
Strategies and information on transitioning, including both medical and social transition pathways.
Development of resources for navigating and accessing healthcare and mental health support.

Peer support is intended to offer folks a safe as possible space to explore their queerness and gender-identity while finding out more about their care options.
Peer support is not intended to replace mental health services, healthcare, or sexual and reproductive care. Peer support sessions are intended to be educational by providing folks with the various care pathways and community resources that are available to them.
Individuals are advised to seek professional services from licensed physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, and health care professionals, if and when necessary. Your peer support worker can help you find a provider that best suits your needs.
